Animal Inspired Rugs

Give your cat something else to scratch besides the rug, like a scratching post, a pad, or a cat tree. Place these things close to the rug or their favorite place to scratch.

Cats don't like sticky or new surfaces, so put double-sided tape or a deterrent spray that is safe for cats on the rug to stop them from scratching it. Instead, put catnip on the scratching post or use treats to get them there.

Regularly cut your cat's claws and give them interactive toys to play with to burn off energy. You can also gently tell them not to scratch the rug and give them a treat when they do it in the right place. It's important to be consistent and patient.

To keep the rug's shape and texture, you should be very careful when you clean an animal fur rug made of cowhide, sheepskin, or fake fur. To begin, either shake the rug out outside or vacuum it with a brush or upholstery attachment.

Do not use a beater bar. To clean up spills, gently blot them up with a damp cloth soaked in mild soapy water or a leather/fur cleaner. Be careful not to soak the rug. Whether it's real or fake fur, you can use a pet brush to lightly brush the fibers to keep them fluffy. Real animal fur rugs should never be washed or dried in a machine.

Keep the rug out of direct sunlight and heat so it can dry on its own. For a deep clean, you should talk to a professional cleaner who knows how to take care of animal hides or fur.
