Cotton rugs last about three to five years, and they last longer in low- to moderate-traffic places like bedrooms, nurseries, and casual living rooms. They're soft, light, and easy to move, but in areas with a lot of foot traffic, they might not last as long as wool or synthetic rugs. Rotating them often and cleaning them gently can help them last longer. Look for styles that are tightly knotted or braided to make them last longer.

Shake the rug outside to get rid of any dirt that is sticking to it. Use a brushless suction attachment to vacuum both sides for a better clean. To wash something in a machine, use cold water and the gentle mode. Then, lay it flat to dry. Use a mild soap and a soft brush to wash your hands, then rinse well and dry fully. Check the care label every time you wash something to make sure it won't shrink or get damaged.

Put a rug pad that doesn't slip under the rug to keep it from moving around. Pick a pad that is the right size for the rug and works with the type of floor you have. You could also use carpet tape with two sides on the ends or the back. Corner grippers or rug anchors can help with extra hold in places with a lot of foot traffic. Keeping the rug flat and free of wrinkles is another way to keep it from moving around.
