If you want to set a certain mood,
1) Cotton and linen are great for daily use because they breathe well and get softer over time. 2) Polyester and blends less likely to stretch, great for easy care.
3) Velvet and jacquard are both very fancy fabrics that can be used for fancy dinners or holiday parties.
4) Vinyl or plastic-coated: These are good for families with kids because they are simple to clean.

For a normal drop, measure your table and add 12 to 16 inches to each side. If you want a more dramatic, floor-length look (especially for events), you can make the drop longer.
