The process of creating niello objects is a very labor-intensive and elaborate one. Typically, precious metals such as gold, silver, or brass are incised to create meaning, often culturally, depictions or patterns on an object. Cambodian silversmiths are considered among the most skilled experts at chasing, repoussé, niello, enameling, and gilding such objects.
This solid brass vase features an elaborately engraved depiction of Cambodian rural lives, houses, temples, and cattle on every inch of the vase exterior. Every piece requires complicated engraving by hands for 6 months before birthing a highly detailed nielloware.
